Nilfisk launches vacuum made from 30% plastic consumer waste

Nilfisk pushes boundaries in the cleaning industry by introducing its first vacuum made from post-consumer recycled plastic. The vacuum is the first in a series of new products and upgrades in 2024.

Nilfisk – a global provider of cleaning products and services – has launched an upgraded version of one of its best-selling vacuums. The new VP300 R consists of 30% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) plastic, closing the plastic products loop by diverting consumer waste from landfills.

The new vacuum is the first Nilfisk product made from recycled consumer waste and marks the beginning of a 2024 where Nilfisk introduces a range of both new and upgraded products during the year.

The upgraded version of one of Nilfisk’s customer favorites is a new milestone for Nilfisk and supports the aim to lead the cleaning industry with more sustainable products. Cleaning solutions is a necessity today and in the future. It is, therefore, a clear priority for Nilfisk to develop cleaning solutions that do as little harm to the environment as possible.

VP, Sustainability and ESG Malene Thiele comments on the new VP300 R vacuum and the choice of recycled plastic:

Using recycled consumer waste plastic for a vacuum can be a challenging task compared to manufacturing with for example post-industrial recycled plastic. We want to push the boundaries for how we make vacuums, and right now, we have been able to make a durable machine with the same high level of technical standards that also contributes to the circular economy.”

In creating a more sustainable future for the coming generations, Nilfisk acknowledges the importance of reducing the climate footprint and has chosen to follow a science-based approach in doing so. As part of the strategy, Nilfisk has committed to a SBTi Scope 3 intensity target with 48 % reduction in 2030. In 2023, the company achieved a 25% scope 3 reduction compared to 2021.

About the Nilfisk VP300 R vacuum

The Nilfisk VP300 series is fitted with a certified HEPA filter which effectively removes dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles. A weight of only 5,5 kg makes it easy to move around, and with a sound pressure of only 62 dB(A), the equivalent of a quiet refrigerator, it is suitable for daytime cleaning in e.g. offices, hotel and retail outlets.

About PCR plastic

PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) plastic is plastic waste from consumers and households and comes from e.g. bottles, packaging, and plastic wrapping. In this way, the waste plastic from consumers is transformed into new products, reducing and recycling the total amount of plastic waste.

PCR plastic is less commonly used compared to other recycled plastic sources such as PIR (Post-Industrial Recycled) plastic which is leftover material generated during manufacturing processes.

More product launches and upgrades in 2024

The new vacuum is Nilfisk’s first product launch in 2024, and during the year, both the consumer and professional product offerings will be designed to be more energy- and resource-efficient than previously.

During the past year, Nilfisk has focused on developing products with a smaller carbon footprint by reducing energy consumption and resource usage.
