Changing the conditions of clean

At the turn of the 20th century, cleaning was demanding physical work. Dust filled the air. Dirt clung to every surface. Hygiene was rarely a priority. For many, cleaning meant long hours of sweeping, scrubbing, and lifting, often at the expense of health and safety.

From the beginning, Nilfisk set out to change that. Our goal was to make cleaning safer, healthier, and more efficient, reducing physical strain while improving results.

That focus shaped our earliest decisions and continues to guide us today.

Caring beyond materials

In the 1930s, we began refurbishing and reusing components from returned vacuums, long before recycling became common practice. Even then, caring was about more than conserving materials. It was about extending the life of equipment, saving effort, and helping people get more value from the tools they relied on every day.

As cleaning needs evolved, so did our approach. The introduction of Ecoflex technology gave operators greater control over water, energy, and detergent use. This made it possible to balance performance with efficiency, reducing waste without compromising results.

Designed to last and designed responsibly

Today, caring is built into how we design and engineer our solutions. We focus on durability, reliability, and recyclability, creating equipment that performs consistently year after year. Selected machines include recycled plastic, supporting a more responsible use of resources.

Our commitment to environmental and social responsibility has been recognized with the Ecovadis Gold rating for four consecutive years. But for us, recognition is secondary. What matters is delivering solutions that help customers reduce waste, avoid downtime, and operate more efficiently.

Optimizing resources is not only good for the environment. It is good for performance, productivity, and long-term value.

Caring that delivers lasting impact

The concept of caring is part of every design decision, every process, and every partnership. By protecting people, supporting efficient operations, and using resources wisely, we help customers achieve better outcomes today while preparing for the future.

After 120 years, our approach remains clear. Caring means taking responsibility for how cleaning is done, how resources are used, and how solutions perform over time. It is how we help create safer workplaces, stronger operations, and a cleaner future for all.
