Combustible dust can accumulate virtually anywhere. Choosing the right machine to collect harmful dust depends on zone classification and the type of materials collected.
Safety is an integral component of Nilfisk's philosophy in the development of this range. We offer an extensive and effective range of industrial vacuum solutions to meet safety requirements in environments where there is a risk of explosion (ATEX, Hazloc, or IECEx), and in those where dust is a real hazard for human health and the environment. We even provide a complete range of dust containment systems for the recovery of highly potent compounds.
CHOOSING AN ACD MACHINE
ACD* vacuums safely collect combustible dust where ATEX certification is not required. So, if you only collect combustible dust in non-classified zone areas like many small bakeries or businesses that utilise materials such as flour, grain, sugar, lactose, and others, there are now fewer safety requirements when collecting combustible dust. And to ensure you are getting the level of safety you need, Nilfisk machines are certified by an independent 3rd-party.

CHOOSING AN ATEX INDUSTRIAL VACUUM
ATEX zone classification is assessed to a business or production facility after a thorough risk analysis has been conducted, according to the Directive 2014/34 UE. ATEX zoning can also be attributed to just a section or area within a business.

USE A SUITABLE VACUUM
The conditions necessary for a combustible accident to occur are the presence of a combustible substance, oxygen, and an ignition source. There are upper and lower limits of the concentration of combustible dust or flammable gas in the atmosphere which can trigger an explosion. When using an industrial vacuum, oxygen is always present. There is also the possibility that dust clouds and flammable gas or vapours could also be present. Thus, two of the three elements that can generate an explosion are always present.
Nilfisk ATEX certified industrial vacuum cleaners eliminate the third parameter: the ignition source.
When collecting combustible dust outside of an ATEX certified zone, using a 3rd-party certified ACD vacuum guarantees that you are making the safest, most efficient, choice for keeping your production running hazard-free.
In areas where there is a risk of combustible dust, ignited incidents, are divided into zones based on the frequency and duration of the presence of an explosive
ATEX DIRECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The customer is responsible for securing zone classification of their business, as well as work areas within the business according to Directives, and where the machine must be installed.
The machine manufacturer is responsible for supplying a machine that meets the related ATEX Certification requirements, along with a declaration of conformity.
