Nilfisk improves its Business Sustainability Rating being awarded an EcoVadis Silver Score

Nilfisk is being recognised for its continued progress on corporate social sustainability (CSR) receiving an EcoVadis 2021 Silver rating. This recent sustainability assessment is a significant improvement from last year and is mainly driven by environmental efforts.

Category:

Nilfisk is dedicated to improving its sustainability efforts throughout its value chain and the upgrade to the EcoVadis Silver rating is a significant step forward. The new ranking is in the 91st percentile across all industries, meaning that Nilfisk’s score is higher than or equal to the score of 91 percent of all companies rated by EcoVadis.

“I am proud of our upgrade in the EcoVadis rating and being among the top range of companies assessed,” says Camilla Ramby, CMO of Nilfisk.

According to Ramby, the EcoVadis rating is important to Nilfisk to drive further progress and to provide transparency to its customers and business partners:

“We use this trusted and recognised sustainability rating to focus our efforts and to drive action plans. Nilfisk is present in more than 40 countries worldwide and our solutions are being used in over 100 countries, so it is complex to drive progress, and therefore yet even more satisfactory when we see the results. It demonstrates that we are on the right path.”

The annual EcoVadis rating comprises 21 indicators across four main themes: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. The 2021 Nilfisk score upgrade is mainly driven by the company’s environmental actions including its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions linked to the Science Based Target initiative.

Rising customer demand for ESG ratings

The EcoVadis Silver rating is important to Nilfisk’s customers and other external stakeholders, driven by increased awareness and demand for documented sustainability progress.

Steen Lindbo, Nilfisk Executive Vice President and Head of Sales, says:

“We see a rising demand from our customers to provide elaborative insights into our ESG performance and how we demonstrate our awareness for sustainability. ESG ratings, and EcoVadis in particular, have become key indicators when customers assess future partnerships and suppliers. I am confident that the EcoVadis Silver rating will further strengthen Nilfisk’s position in our markets.”

Nilfisk will release its 2021 CSR Report on February 25, 2022, which will provide more information on the company’s CSR strategy and commitments.

Pressure washing cleaning - tips

Here Nilfisk, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of commercial and industrial cleaning equipment, give us their top tips for cleaning vehicles fast whilst keeping costs down

Category:

Remove Grime before Washing

It is critical that as much dirt as possible is removed before any hands are placed on the vehicle. Any particles dragged along the surface of the vehicle will damage the paint work. A pressure washer is ideal for this but be careful not to stand too close, a minimum distance of 30cm is ideal. It is good practice to point the water hose to the floor stabilising the force of the flow before contact is made. Pre-spraying with a detergent liquid or foam is recommended but never use a pressure washer on paintwork that is flaking or rusty.

Select the right attachment

Using the right attachment can help to further agitate dirt? A soft, long bristled brush is ideal for the bodywork whilst a rotary brush will assist in getting into awkward areas like front grills, bumpers and wheels.

A detergent nozzle will allow you to spray your vehicle with a mixture of water and mild pressure washer detergent. This is particularly good at cutting through grime and oily stains.

A wand extension will help you reach over the roof of high vehicles accessing the bits that often get missed by a sponge. Never use a ‘turbo’ or unrestricted nozzle on your pressure washer as irreversible damage can occur to paintwork and rubber seals.

Avoid Mechanical & Electrical Components

Never point the pressure washer into the engine block or any other working components including the vehicle aerial. Many experts agree that a well maintained engine block encourages mechanics to take more care when servicing but don’t clean it with a pressure washer!

Pressure Washing the Wheels

Alloy wheels and hubcaps are the biggest collector of grit, dust and oil from road surfaces. Begin as you would with the bodywork by using the main nozzle of the pressure washer to remove loose debris and immediate dirt. Then use the detergent nozzle to break down oil residue and then the rotary brush to agitate the difficult stains and get into awkward corners. Rinse thoroughly with plain water to remove all excess detergent but avoid aiming the pressure washer at the tyres to avoid damage to tread or the tyre wall.

Hot or Cold?

Most of the time cold water delivered at pressure will do the job but if oil or grease are present hot water will be much faster and cost effective. Independent tests have proven that cleaning time, and the associated labour cost, can be significantly reduced if hot water is used. Whole life running costs, including purchase price, labour, water, fuel and service elements can be reduced by 26% compared to cold water only. Hot or cold the option for instant detergent cleaning should only be a button push away.

When selecting hot pressure washers look for models with eco-friendly boilers as power consumption will be significantly lower. The Nilfisk MH range provide up to 210 bars of pressure at 90 degrees and heat the water with EcoPower™ boilers recognised and approved by EUnited. An EcoMode™ function allows cleaning at 60 degrees with further fuel savings and excellent results.

Ease of Use

Additionally when choosing a pressure washer pay attention to the machines centre of gravity as it will affect how easy the unit is to pull or push, especially on uneven surfaces.  Manoeuvrability is critical within a busy, time pressured facility. The Nilfisk MH range feature a 4 wheel design which is very easy to tip and steer from left to right, transport is aided by a handy footplate at the rear.

The oldest working Nilfisk vacuum cleaner?

The UK Head Office was contacted recently by a Mr and Mrs Dawson of Clitheroe in Lancashire.

Category:

They own a working model of the Tellus Vacuum Cleaner that was made in 1955. The machine has been in their family for 3 generations and is still going strong.

The couple are now downsizing and asked us if we would like to have the vacuum cleaner on display. Needless to say we jumped at the chance! A very big thank you to Mr and Mrs Dawson for the opportunity to welcome this model back to the family.
