Collection and Disposal of Waste Batteries

As a producer of industrial and automotive batteries, under the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, we take our responsibilities of waste batteries seriously with regards to end-of-life treatment and recycling.

Treatment of waste batteries and accumulators raises several environmental concerns, mostly due to the metals they contain. When batteries are incinerated, the metals they contain pollute the atmosphere and the incineration residues. When batteries end up in landfills, the metals can leach into the soil and water. Moreover, batteries are a useful source of secondary raw materials. Thousands of tonnes of metals, including valuable metals such as nickel, cobalt and silver, can be recovered if batteries are properly recycled.
