Macculloch Hall Historical Museum located in Morristown, NJ recently received a grant that enabled the purchase of a specialized Nilfisk vacuum. The museum features examples of 18th and early 19th century porcelain, furniture, silver and presidential memorabilia. The Nilfisk GM80 with variable-speed control dubbed as the Nilfisk "museum vacuum" is ideal for general cleaning around delicate museum artifacts, as well as rare books and manuscripts found in many libraries. The GM80 features a four-stage filtration system which includes a DOP-tested HEPA exhaust filter that captures 99.97% of particles up to 0.3 microns. This prevents fine particulate from being re-released into the air and onto collections objects. According to professional curatorial staff, airborne particulates should be minimized in museum settings; they can be difficult to remove from delicate collections objects and can cause substantial damage over time. The variable speed control option allows the vacuum operator to adjust the airflow from 0 to 87 cfm or 0 to 100% of machine power (vary the vacuum motor speed to adjust the vacuum suction) by simply turning the dial.
