Why is breast cancer research so important:

• Early detection is important. More than 3,700 New Zealanders are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The 10-year survival rate is 95% if breast cancer is detected early by mammogram, or 85% if a symptom is found. More than 36,000 people currently live with or have survived breast cancer in New Zealand.
• However, too many people are still diagnosed late - more than 650 people die from breast cancer each year in NZ and is the leading cause of death for New Zealand women under 65. Over 30% of women who are eligible for breast screening are not taking part.

Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand (BCFNZ) has a vision to achieve zero deaths from breast cancer.

The money donated to them helps achieve this vision through early detection education, supporting those with breast cancer, research and innovation and advocacy.
