Nilfisk achieves the third-in-row CDP ‘A’–score on climate action

Nilfisk receives an ‘A’- score by CDP, reflecting that the company upholds high standards in climate and environmental actions and continues to implement best practices.

Nilfisk has, for the third consecutive year, been awarded an ‘A-’ score for its climate actions by CDP, a recognized international nonprofit organization that administrates a global carbon disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, and states. The ‘A’–score is achieved within the Leadership band and stands for implementing current best practices.

‘A’ is the second highest score possible and a continuation of the ranking years before. Nilfisk managed to lift the score from ‘F’ in 2018 to ‘A’ in 2020 and keep this ranking for three consecutive years. This has been accomplished all the while requirements for obtaining high CDP scores are gradually lifted.

The continuity expresses the ability to keep implementing best practices to reduce its carbon footprint in the entire value chain.

Camilla Ramby, CMO and Chair of Nilfisk’s CSR Board, commented:

“I am pleased that our climate actions continue to be rated as best practice by CDP. Over the past years, we have taken huge steps to strengthen our efforts in mapping, tracking, and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions”.

“In 2020 we had our scope 1 and 2 targets approved by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). And by the end of 2021, we also had our Scope 3 targets formally approved by the SBTi. The year after, in 2022, we had the progress and calculations verified by a third party, and overall, we continually strive to be transparent and diligently document our progress”.

Sustainability is a business strategy.

In 2022 Nilfisk also progressed from a silver to a gold medal by EcoVadis. Parallel to this, sustainability is now an integrated part of the company's business plan towards 2026. In April, Nilfisk took a step further towards integration of sustainability and signed a credit facility agreement of EUR 400 million, where the interest margin will be adjusted based on Nilfisk’s ability to deliver annual progress on our four strategic sustainability targets:

  • By 2030: 35% reduction of Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from a 2019 base year, as validated through the Science Based Targets initiative.
  • By 2030: 48% reduction of Scope 3 GHG emissions from the use of sold products per unit of gross profit from a 2021 base year (category 11 of the GHG protocol), as validated through the Science Based Targets initiative.
  • By 2026: minimum 25% representation of the underrepresented gender in all senior management tiers.
  • Achieve and maintain, as a minimum, an EcoVadis Gold Medal.

Nilfisk has been a signatory member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) since 2010 and works strategically with more UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

About CDP

CDP is a not-for-profit charity that runs a global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impacts. CDP measures how they manage their risks and opportunities on climate change, water security and deforestation.

CDP is considered one of the highest standards of environmental reporting due to its very comprehensive dataset. Together with cities, states, and regions, more than 18.700 companies from over 90 countries disclose their sustainability data through CDP annually.

Prerequisite of the CDP leadership score

See the CDP scoring methodology here

  • To earn leadership status, a company must represent best practices formulated by organizations working with CDP to advance environmental stewardship (e.g., CEO water mandate, CERES, WWF).
  • Companies that reach leadership status in the climate change program will have shown a thorough understanding of risks and opportunities related to climate change and will have formulated and implemented strategies to mitigate or capitalize on these risks and opportunities.
  • These companies have verified GHG emissions statements and have implemented emissions reduction strategies to reach company-wide goals.
