History
The vacuum cleaner was invented at a time when television was unheard of and radio transmission was still in its infancy. Yet, still today, the genius behind the vacuum cleaner invention is unquestioned. It remains essentially a simply brilliant solution to an ongoing problem, and one to which we can all relate.
Try to imagine how it would be to clean your home without the aid of a vacuum cleaner. No really! Think about it. Just put yourself back in time when upholstery and carpets had the dust beaten out of them by hand, and when brushes, brooms and cleaning cloths were state-of-the-art tools. Housewives in the early 1900’s definitely needed a cleaning revolution.
That revolution did come, and Nilfisk-Advance A/S played a big role.
The Nilfisk canister vacuum cleaner invented by P.A.Fisker all those years ago, was the first such machine in Europe that could be operated by a single person. It weighed a ‘mere’ 17.5 kilograms. At the time, other machines were huge in comparison, needing 4 or more operators. Often the machine was situated outside the house with the hose dragged in through the window.
